Engagement shoots are a great way to get to know your photographer before booking wedding day coverage. I offer engagement shoots for couples in Brisbane at popular locations like Roma St Parklands, New Farm Park and Mt Coot-Tha Gardens. These sessions are available from Sunday through to Friday.

Even at locations that I have visited many times before like New Farm Park, I always like to visit a few days prior to see exactly what the light will be during our shoot. I also arrive early for every engagement shoot, to fine tune the scene plan (where we will shoot on the day) so we are taking full advantage of the beautiful locations and natural lighting.

Sessions last 90 minutes, and are scheduled in the late afternoon when the best light of sunset provides the most flattering photos.

Editing of engagement photos takes more time than candid photography or event photography. During a 90 minute engagement session, we might take 500+ photos in total to capture the best expressions and moments. These are then selected, and individually edited including spot removal of blemishes, mild teeth whitening if required, exposure changes and other other subtle edits.

I would normally deliver about 50 photos for an engagement session, over 5-7 scenes. It takes about 3-4 hours to edit engagement photos to this standard, and this is all included in the fixed price.

I like the photos to appear as natural as possible, and do not change skies in Photoshop or add fake lens flares or other embellishments. We aim to get as much right in the camera as possible, taking advantage of the beautiful backdrops where we are shooting and the available light.

I like to capture wide, medium and close up shots and create a few hero images (perfect for wall art or canvasses) in addition to sets of photos that work well in albums.

An engagement session is priced at $400, and requires a 50% deposit to secure the date, with the balance due once the photos are ready.

It includes phone calls and consultations to discuss the type of photos you are looking for, and we also meet somewhere close by on the day (a local cafe for example) to go over posing and other particulars beforehand. All of this preparation and planning ensures we are not wasting time walking around aimlessly to find great locations, and that we spend as much time as possible posing and shooting.

The amount of posing required for each couple just depends on how you interact in front of the camera. I can fully pose couples, and will do so where required for the best results.

Engagement photos are delivered at high resolution (3600 pixels) and also 30 days later at maximum resolution, which you can print from to your heart’s content.
